ASP ref: ASP000
Name: Jax
Species: African Grey Parrot
Main Carer: Female
Description: Jax is a wonderful boy; friendly and affectionate (with the right person), he loves to snuggle on the chest and shoulder, with head rubs. He also loves to roam around the floor, and if you leave paper down he will have lots of fun making confetti.
He can be very vocal, and will chat along with ‘phone calls. During lockdown he took part in lots of Zoom calls. If he is on his own in the lounge he will often sing or call out. He learned most of our dogs’ names, and will call some of them and scratch seed out of the bottom of his cage for the dogs to eat. They are all quite naughty. He never comes out when the dogs are around, but he does like to interact with them from inside his cage. He can imitate our creaky door, and makes burping noises which he finds quite funny and will chuckle to himself.
He has bonded with the female of the house, and clearly prefers women. He will tolerate men, but won’t snuggle with them. He will dance for them though.
He loves shredding paper and toys, and enjoys a good spray mist shower. He has a new cardboard box every clean out, to shred.
He eats seed and pellets, topped up regularly with fresh food, and has slowly accepted more veggies in his diet.
He needs someone who will be at home with him for a good amount of time each day. He does like to watch the television, and listen to the radio, but ultimately he wants more human interaction.
Jax came to us from a very loving home where he was a beloved pet from a baby; his female carer had to give him up when she left the home for university. He has been with us for about ten years. He is seeking a new home due to some unforeseen changes in circumstances, and it is a heartbreaking decision.
