Description: Barnie has taken a little time to settle into her new surroundings, but she is now starting to come out of her cage and explore. She will happily step up too—but only on her terms! If it’s not from the cage door, then it’s simply not happening.
She is a fantastic talker and an endless source of entertainment. Barney often has full conversations with my other African Grey, or sometimes just with herself. Her favourite routine is pretending to be on the telephone: first she perfectly mimics the sound of a ringing phone, then launches into, “Hello, hello, yes, yes, OK, OK, right, goodbye!” It never fails to make me laugh.
Barney eats a good seed mix and other parrot foods well, although fresh foods have been a bit more challenging. So far, I’ve discovered that she enjoys broccoli, apple, and cooked carrots—which is a great start.
While Barney has lived on her own for much of her life, I think she would do well with another parrot companion. Most importantly, her new family will need to be patient and allow her to do things at her own pace. Once she feels comfortable, she is a wonderful character who will keep you entertained all day long and bring plenty of laughter into your home.
