Description: I’m currently being assessed but a bit about me
Hello ASP my name is Charlie, I’m 21 years old and told that I’m a Congo African Grey parrot (I have no idea what that means).
I’ve been with my safe house flock for 3 weeks.
I came to my safe house with a mutilated injury to my right leg and needed to see something the humans call a ‘Birdie Vet’.
The reason I decided to peck at my leg isn’t clear to the humans, and I can’t tell them why I’ve done it.
The humans do know I have laid eggs before, but the vet person says this isn’t related. He checked my blood?!
Everything is perfect from that point of view.
The birdie vet took pictures looking inside my body, and apparently nothing is broken or damaged… That’s a huge relief!!
The vet human discovered my leg was really sore and had exposed tissue from where I had pecked and picked. I had a huge scab around my leg, this made my leg swollen and unable to rest it properly.
The vet human cleaned this up and then…
HE PUT THIS STUPID THING ON MY NECK??!
The humans tell me it’s to make my leg look beautiful again.
I’ve adjusted so well to this new thing, even though it annoyed me as I couldn’t peck at my itchy leg sore… that didn’t last long.
I’m a parrot and invisible, I managed to contort myself and you guessed it, pick the scabby thing!
Daddy Dan was pulling his hair out as the vet people had just gone on something called a ‘holiday’.
Dan and the big birdies that I am staying with designed this stupid pink thing, apparently it’s my very own dress.
It’s so annoying!! I can’t get to my new feathers, or scabbing leg.
3 weeks on and I have lots of new feathers coming, and my sore leg is almost healed.
Daddy Mart tells me I need to leave it alone… I do my best to do this, but it’s not easy.
My safe house humans tell me I’m the most forgiving and stable parrot they’ve had.
I let them clean my wounds, remove and replace the collar and even shower me.
I never hold a grudge towards any of these completely unnecessary (in my opinion) things being done.
I happily sit with both daddies, and forcefully insist that you stroke my head.
I’m not keen on the food that daddies call pellets or veg, but love grapes and healthier seed with no peanut or sunflower.
I’m told that once my leg is completely healed, then we will start eating more pellets. That’s what they think!!
I will be looking for a special forever home, where I’ll be able to heal, recover and establish a loving and understanding flock.
You will need to let me sit with you, ideally on the hand, stroke me when I tell you and understand that I might have accidents and peck at my feathers and even my leg.
For now though I’m really happy in my safe house and look forward to updating over the coming weeks. PS I think I do prefer men.
Thank you
Love Charlie
