Description: Personality & Handling
* Sweet, intelligent cockatoo
* Very forthcoming with women; will step up at first meeting
* Will take to men with time, patience, and consistency
* Trust-based bird; responds best to calm, predictable handling
* Enjoys head scratches once trust is established
* Very nosey and likes to be where his humans are
* Will follow people around the house when out
Behaviour History
* Has shown aggression in previous homes
* No aggression shown in current safe housing
* Responds well to routine, boundaries, and a structured settling-in approach
* He will over bond if given too much attention in the first weeks, especially to females in the home (details in settling plan)
* A full settling and handling plan that has been successful will be provided
* Cockatoo-experienced home preferred
Out of Cage Time
* Currently out daily for 1–2 hours
* Time out was built up gradually
* Given space, he will seek interaction himself
* Will happily go back into his cage when needed
* If his humans need to leave, he can be taken and positioned at the cage door and will step back in willingly
* Usually takes himself back into his cage at bedtime or shortly before
Routine & Noise Levels
* Covered for bed at 7:30pm, uncovered at 7:30am
* Silent after bedtime
* Silent in the mornings, even after being uncovered
* Once settled, calling is generally limited to:
* Mealtimes – when he sees you eating something he wants 🤣
* Dusk
* Can be loud in a new environment when humans leave, but settles significantly after the first week
Diet
* Loves daily vegetable chop
* Will eat pellets but not overly keen
* Enjoys fruit days
* Favourite fruits: apple and banana
Enrichment
* Strong need to shred and destroy
* Requires plenty of:
* Wooden toys
* Shreddables
* Safe cardboard
Housing
* A larger cage would be ideal long-term
* Currently happy and settled in his existing cage
Other Birds
* Not bothered by other birds
* Suitable alongside other birds provided they are not reactive towards him
Ideal Home
* Calm, patient household – currently lives with adults but could be homed with sensible children 6+.
* Currently lives with two adult dogs, they are bouncy but don’t pay any attention to the birds and he is fine with them, so other pets shouldn’t be an issue
* Understanding of cockatoo behaviour and body language
* Willing to follow a structured settling-in plan
* Able to provide routine, space, and appropriate enrichment.
