Description: Taz is a wonderful, gentle, intelligent and playful Congo African Grey Parrot.

He has been in our safe house for 6 weeks and has made great progress integrating into our home. He likes spending time on the sofa with us, plays catch and is happy sitting on our lap. He loves a head scratch and will bow his head to ask for one. He is a bit hesitant to step up onto our arm but is working on this. He prefers to come out of his cage on his own if you leave the door open and have a sofa or something he can step onto rather than step up.

He has an excellent vocabulary, using words in context – asking to play, saying hello, goodbye and letting us know ‘I’m not sure’ . He also sings, beat boxes, whistles and mimics sounds around the house.

He has a fairly nervous disposition, but is settling in well and this is certainly improving. He initially didn’t want to leave his cage, but now comes to sit out straight away. He appreciates patience and space. He is very gentle and has not shown himself to be a biter. He appreciates you letting him go at his own pace which can be slow and he prefers to take the lead which he does in time such as asking to play catch or asking for a head scratch.

He loves pistachios, grapes, blueberries, carrots, cucumber and bananas as well as the odd piece of wholemeal seeded toast. He will drop any food He doesn’t like to the bottom of his cage. He enjoys chewing on cardboard and shredding it with his beak. He is scared of new toys and likes to see any new toy on the outside of his cage for a few days before it’s introduced inside his cage. He prefers one toy at a time in his cage otherwise he can feel a bit overwhelmed. He is wary of loud noises and would prefer a quieter home without young children.

Taz is very entertaining and will have us laughing every day! He likes to call himself a “good boy” and will often say “good boy Taz” or “Taz bored” when he wants a piece of cardboard to shred. He knows the names of the people in his last home and will often say them.

We are working towards having him step into a tray of warm water to bathe himself as we are sure he will enjoy this once he gets more used to it. He likes to splash around in his water bowl to bathe himself and we lightly spray his body with warm water, he does not like to be sprayed on the head or face.

Taz would benefit from someone who is patient with a calm and quiet home. He likes both male and female care givers with maybe a slight preference for men.
